That said, I really love the Waves plugins. I'm still unsure if I could have just used my earlier versions in Big Sur?Īs an aside, the Sonnox, PSP, and Lexicon plug-ins (probably some of the first/earliest stuff I ever bought when I started going more "in-the-box") I have never had to pay to get the updates?Įven the few Slate stuff I own, who are annoyingly aggressive with trying to get people to switch to "subscription plans", still works. I also did the math about just "rebuying" plugins v. I think I ended up just updating the stuff I really use and abandoning the stuff I don't. I had the hardest time figuring out if I had to update my Waves stuff or not. I updated from High Sierra to Big Sur, and DP 9 to DP 11, all with a clean-install. Where did I put that old stuff? Maybe it's hidden under the basement stairs. Pretty much the same stuff that The Who used to do "Who's Next".

I had once two four track Sony Sound On Sound tape decks, an outboard compressor with pre-emphasis, and a 10 band stereo EQ. The PSP stuff looks like it will survive. To do that I have to consider what other plugins will need paid upgrades, whether I still want these, and so on. I'm inclined to go with the best of the above alternatives, but then I need to update to Big Sur. There are further complications not related to Waves' offers. There are a zillion other variations on this theme. Why the upgrade to Ren + Gold is cheaper than the upgrade to Gold alone is one of the eternal mysteries of the cosmos. Of I can "upgrade" to Gold along for about $150, and get a year of WUP on that, but not on the Ren plugins, on 3 the 5 "one-ofs". I can add WUPS on the "one-ofs" for about $50 and get a credit I can apply to the Ren+Gold upgrade to reduce the price on that by about 20%. Or I can "upgrade" to Ren + Gold for about $125 and get a year of WUP on that, but not on 3 of the 5 "one-ofs" that are not in either bundle. Or I can buy everything I have again, at V14, for a little more than half of that, and get a year of WUPs. I have the Ren bundle and 5 other "one of" plugins, of which two are in the Gold bundle.

(BTW, their support people have been pretty good and quick to reply). I've traded messages with Waves support on the V14 update. If it says "Renew Coverage" (the date shown will be in the past), you won't be able to upgrade that plugin until you WUP that plugin. The "Update Plan" column shows your WUP status. go to, navigate to your User Account and look at "My Products".

It's pretty opaque figuring that out with Waves.Īctually, it is pretty simple. I can never figure out which Waves what stuff I can upgrade for free and which UI have to pay for?
